More About Me:
About this blog: After blogging about my wedding photography business, I wanted somewhere I could record my other creative endeavors. I have tried to figure out something specific to blog about, but I love doing so many things that I found it hard to choose. Then I decided to make a blog about my life...about trying to balance my love of creativity with my responsibilities and the hectic schedule that comes with so called life.
My creative soul would love to be closed off in a studio creating most of the time, I am a quiet & sometimes shy person and have always felt more comfortable doing my own little thing. I tend to dream big. When I was little I had the dream of working for Disney and moving away from my small town to live in L.A. After living that dream for 6 years, I have realized that although dreaming big can help you grow in ways you couldn't imagine, it's the every day stuff that makes life meaningful. One of my favorite quotes is "What is the meaning of life? to give life meaning." I think this is why I fell in love with photography. I love to capture everyday moments, and that so called real life. One of my goals on this blog is to give photo tutorials. It's great to hire a photographer (I love to be hired), but most of us aren't the Kennedy's with the money for a staffed family photographer. I have shot and studied with some of the worlds best lifestyle photographers and I plan on sharing how I take everyday photos.
Also on this blog you will see me attempting to cook (I am not great at cooking but I rock at baking.) I will also post little creative projects here and there. If I can, I will always put templates up so if you want to join me in my creative mess you are welcome to.
I will also post little bits about my everyday life. Previously on my photo blog I have tried to mask out what I call our "nasty apartment." I have issues spending 500k on a 900 square foot fixer upper home with no yard, or a beautiful historic home in the ghetto. So we live in our cheap little 1970's apartment in a nice area (location location location or so the realtor tells us). Anyways, I have realized that for me to capture my own families moments I can't always haul everyone to a pretty location. So don't judge this designer on her home. It's an eye sore and believe me I am aware of it:) But it is where we are now and someday maybe I'll look back at those pictures and think fondly of this "nasty apartment" and all the good times we had here.
A little more about me:
Some of the details: I was born and raised in Utah. I love my home there and miss it every day. Especially when it’s time for the seasons to change, I see what kind of home I can afford back home, or I get stuck in L.A. traffic. I grew up with a passion for Everything creative. Luckily, I had a mom who taught me how to sew and bake and would buy me new stacks of paper to cut and glue. At age 19, I went to Ringling School of art. I finished up my art training at Brigham Young University. It was at BYU I fell in love with children’s book art and telling stories visually.
Family Life: In 2006 I married my husband Chad, he hails from the great white north and grew up with the polar bears. Somehow we both ended up here in L.A. We had our first baby in October 2009. We love her and even though she can be poopy I think she is a keeper.
Professional life: I am currently an Imagineer for the Walt Disney Company. This means that I design Disney theme parks around the world. When I was 12 years old I decided that it was my dream, and with a lot of hard work I finally got there! I moved to L.A. and have worked there since 2003. From this I have learned that anything is really possible. I am very grateful for the opportunity to work with the other artists and designers, they have made me who I am and continue to motivate and inspire me. Due to the confidential nature of our work, I don’t get to post much that I work on from Disney. But you may see pictures from my travels to the different parks around the world.
I also run a photography company in my spare time (which isn’t much). I shoot weddings and portraits. I fell in love with documenting life and love to tell people’s stories through the lens. You can see my photography site here.
All in all I lead a busy life. But I try and find time to make it a little more creative.
